PROJECT: CASLON: THE FIRST ENGLISH TYPEFACE
TYPE: PRINT

  • Caslon: The First English Typeface offers a comprehensive look on William Caslon I and his typeface and examines the revolutionary impact his works have had on English type design.

The overall design reflects the typeface’s beautiful and classical appearance. The pages utilize white space, evoking an air of elegance, and the subtle and sophisticated color palette is inspired by the unpretentious nature of the typeface.

PROJECT: CASLON: A TYPE SPECIMEN
TYPE: PRINT

  • “When in doubt, use Caslon” is a popular adage referring to the unassuming yet charming Caslon typeface, a beloved staple for type designers when setting large amounts of text, due to its high legibility.

Thus, this type specimen is intended to push the “old-fashioned” Caslon out of its comfort zone. Designers and readers can see the capabilities of this classic, old work typeface by placing it in atypical layouts, portraying the theme, “Kafkaesque”, into each page.

PROJECT: CERISE (ABRIDGED)
TYPE: PRINT

  • Readers can follow along to this typographical representation of Cerise, one of the tracks from Ken Nordine’s word-jazz album, “Colors”. Accordion binding was used to show that each page connects to the next, and when fully extended, the entire journey of Cerise is shown.
